01/08/2011

The leather and footwear show, Expo Riva Schuh India 2011, has concluded successfully.

Over 150 renowned global leather products-makers from 14 countries exhibited their products in the event.

During his visit on the final day, Mr Uday Kumar Varma, Secretary Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises said: “India has made a lot of progress especially in the leather industry. A lot of research has been done; there is diversity in design and finishing. There are few challenges like skill-development, technology and designing wherein we need to invest for increasing the quality of our products and high-end exports. We can and we will definitely look forward to fulfil all these requirements from developed countries like Italy, China and others. In leather and related products, almost 90% of the companies are micro and medium enterprises which need hand-holding and guidance at a faster pace. That’s where these countries come into picture.”
