The Expo Riva Schuh fair, a three-day leather event, will begin in New Dehli, India, on 28 July, 2011. As many as 200 global participants from the UK, Italy, China, Thailand and other countries will participate in the event.

“The fair will help (Indian firms) collaborate with leading foreign investors, bring joint ventures and upgrade quality of Indian products, especially when we are looking at the target of doubling our exports by 2013-14,” India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) executive director, Ali Ahmed Khan, said.

To increase the share of leather products in the country’s overall exports, the government has asked exporters to increase shipments of value-added products, especially high-end shoes and leather garments, instead of only finished leather.

“With this aim, we are organising this world’s most famous leather fair. It will attract international buyers, partners and investors,” Mr Ahmed said.

The fair, to be inaugurated by Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma, is being organised by CLE in collaboration with state-run India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).
