SATRA to set up new company in China

As part of its continued expansion in China, research and testing centre SATRA is in the process of establishing a new wholly foreign-owned enterprise to replace the representative office it has at the moment in Dongguan.

Heading up the venture is Steve Rose who takes on the responsibility of general manager. He has been based in Dongguan since April this year in charge of the SATRA office there.

He joined SATRA in 1978 and has considerable technical knowledge and experience in the footwear and leather industries. For the past eight years he has spent significant time in China building working relationships with manufacturers, tanneries, international brands and sourcing companies.

SATRA said it was planning to develop these relationships further, and to grow the range of seminars and lectures it has been running in the region.

“Because of a shortage of labour and increasing labour rates, production efficiency is much more important now than when I first went to China on business,” Steve Rose said. The organisation’s chief executive, Austin Simmons, commented: “SATRA was one of the first Western research and technology organisations to provide a technical partnership for consumer products industries with a Far East manufacturing base. The future set up of the wholly foreign owned enterprise, with Steve as its general manager will take it to the next level.”
