Bangladesh exports worth $23 billion in 2011
Bangladesh’s merchandise export hit a new record of $23 billion in the just concluded fiscal year, 2010-11, representing a 41.5% growth over that of the 2009-10 fiscal.
Increasing export earnings from sectors including leather, footwear, garment, jute, frozen fish and shipbuilding contributed to a significant growth in the country’s overall exports receipts, official data showed on 11 July 2011.
Exporters and officials said garment export may have been the most important factor behind the boom, if compared with the previous fiscal’s 4% growth.
“We expect that the overall export growth will continue, and the total earning, geared up by knit, woven, home textile, frozen fish, leather, footwear and shipbuilding sectors’ performances, will cross $25 billion in the current fiscal (2011-12),” said Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice chairman Jalal Ahmed.
