Brazil registers record trade surplus for the first half of 2011

Brazil has registered a trade surplus of $13 billion during the first six months of 2011, with record exports across all sectors of $118.3 billion and record imports of $105.3 billion.

The value of beef exports over the six-month period was 9.1% higher than for the same period in 2010. Volume was down, at 406,000 tonnes, compared to nearly 487,000 tonnes in the first half of last year, but the value of the beef Brazil exported between January and June 2011 was more than $2 billion compared to $1.8 billion last year.
