Cash to help Rwanda grow livestock industry

04/07/2011
The African Development Bank has approved a $35 million loan to help Rwanda grow its livestock industry.

Rwanda launched a Livestock Infrastructure Support Programme this year and will run it until 2015.

Part of the money will be dedicated to improving water supply in the country’s Eastern Province.

Rwanda currently has a herd size of just over 800,000 head of cattle and 1.4 million sheep and goats, however, the ministry of agriculture says these animals are “mainly of inferior breeds with very low productivity”.
