New soaking agent from TFL

Specialty chemicals company TFL has brought to market a new liquid soaking agent, Pellvit CSW.

“The secret of a good beamhouse process lies in the soak,” the company said on introducing the new product. “To achieve this, the hide has to be wet back and the surface has to be free of dirt, dung and grease. Universal surfactants like non-ionic fatty alcohol ethoxylates are often used to perform soaking, but they can create various problems, like excessive removal of natural grease and thereby create looseness and emptiness in the leather.”

Pellvit CSW is enzyme-free and free of nonylphenol ethoxylates, so it can wet back hides without mobilising natural grease, resulting in tight and full leathers and thereby providing a good basis for maximum cutting yields, TFL continued.

The product also optimises the opening-up of the hide structure and promotes the removal of dirt, blood and dung, even at low temperatures. The company claimed that the new soaking agent can provide particularly clean, smooth pelts to allow good cutting yields if combined with its Erhavit liming agent for improving the efficiency and penetration of the liming chemicals.
