PTA demands water supply for tanneries

29/06/2011

The chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Aziz Ahmed, has asked the Sindh government to ensure the water supply to the tannery zone in Korangi Industrial Area’s sector 7-A is resumed.

In a statement on 28 June 2011, he spoke to chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah about the deteriorating situation of infrastructure in Karachi’s Tannery Zone. It remains short of water supply, vital for the leather industry, he said.

He pointed out that on special instruction of Governor Sindh, KWSB’s managing director, Misbah Uddin Farid, had visited the PTA’s office about three months ago and assured the PTA members about early resumption of water supply to the tanneries, but water supply had not been resumed and no officer of KWSB ever followed up.
