Established in Toronto in 1973 by two entrepreneurs from across the border in Detroit, Michael Budman and Don Green, Roots employs more than 1,500 at its factory and says continuing to manufacture its bags in Canada is a key part of its brand identity.
“When you weigh all of the advantages and disadvantages we feel that it’s important to make it here and be part of the process and know whose hands it’s going through,” Mr Budman recently told The Vancouver Sun. “I really feel that the factory is the most profitable it has ever been today.”
Roots has more than 120 retail locations in Canada and the United States, and more than 40 in Asia.
