Sudan Industry Ministry to build ‘leather city’

Dr Awad Ahmed al-Jaz, Sudan’s Minister of Industry has announced that his Ministry, in association with Khartoum State, will be setting up a city for leather industries on an area of 210,000 hectares.

 

During his inspection visit to the Leather Technology Centre, the Minister highlighted the significance and need for all the segments of the leather industry to attain sustainability. He also stressed on the need to boost production of shoes and bags, as per the international standards.

 

The Minister mentioned various steps that have been initiated for upgrading the country’s leather industry, exercising a check on waste creation, and for development of the tanneries.

 

Dr Awad al-seed Al Sheikh, director of the Leather Technology Centre assured that his institute would make its best models available for the workshops and factories to support development of the industry on a scientific basis to ensure reasonable returns to the producers.
