Vuitton contribution to latest Lectra solution

Available immediately for leathergoods and footwear applications, Mr Harari said companies producing leather for automotive and furniture applications would be able to use the new technology in the coming months.
He went on to explain that one customer, luxury leathergoods manufacturer Louis Vuitton, has already been using Versalis Fashion for 15 months because the two companies worked together on the development of the solution. According to Mr Harari, the biggest difference the technology can make to Louis Vuitton and other customers is that the cutting system “analyses each hide in real time” and cuts the most appropriate part of, say, a bag from each part of the raw material.
The Lectra chief executive said: “Louis Vuitton requires high quality and high volume and its volumes have been going up over the last few years. It’s also having to make smaller series of different products to meet global customer demand and it’s having to work with leather that varies in quality but seems to be increasing in price all the time. This system is saving Louis Vuitton closer to 15% than 10% a year.”
