Prada and Hyundai unveil special-edition car

Luxury leathergoods brand Prada has partnered with Korean car maker Hyundai to launch a special edition Genesis family sedan, which includes high-end Prada ‘saffiano’ leather upholstery.

Hyundai has said it has no immediate intention of launching a spin-off luxury car brand, the way Toyota did with Lexus. However, it has been selling its top-range Genesis and Equus lines in its home market without any Hyundai logos for some time.

Feeling the need to offer something even more exclusive to wealthy South Korean motorists, it set up the project with Prada in 2008 and unveiled the Genesis Prada on May 17 at an art gallery in Seoul.

The company has made 1,200 Genesis Prada cars for the South Korean market and has another few hundred will be made for customers in the Middle East and China.
