India: CLE predicts leather exports to increase
The Indian leather industry expects stabilised market conditions in the traditional export destinations such as the US and Europe in the next six months, according to the vice chairman of the Council of Leather Exports (CLE), Rajendra Kumar Jalan.
“The demand from our traditional overseas market is gradually increasing and would stabilise in next six months, however now the time has come whereby we as an industry must look for other untapped markets of Latin America, North Africa also CIS countries,” Mr Jalan recently told local media.
“In my opinion US and European businesses, as far as leather products are concerned, are normalising faster than expected,” he added.
When asked on the export growth from the new markets, Mr Jalan added that leather exporters have started exploring new destinations but the growth as of now is not substantial.
