The mayor of the town of Capitão Enéas in the north of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, Reinaldo Teixeira, has said he expects a new tannery and slaughterhouse to set up there.

Mr Teixeira has told local media that negotiations over bringing the new facilities to
Capitão Enéas are at an advanced stage. A manufacturer of safety footwear, Marluvas, opened a new factory in the town on May 14 and the tannery would provide leather for production there.

The state government of Minas Gerais has been involved in helping to bring jobs to
Capitão Enéas. The authorities there had become concerned about the numbers of young people who had been moving away.
