Clariant offers new topcoat system for very soft leathers

Specialty chemicals provider Clariant says it has identified a clear ongoing trend through all furniture and nappa leathers for improved softness and feel. “The challenge for the finisher is always to balance out the customer requests for both, the physicals and aesthetics,” the company has said.

In response, the company has launched a new topcoat system based on Melio 09-W-66 and Aqualen Top GC-2033. The system is especially developed to achieve wet rub resistance and a pleasant, natural feel.

The products can be mixed in any ratio to achieve the desired gloss level. Melio 09-W-66, a dulled aqueous mix of selected polymers and additives and Aqualen Top GC-2033, an aqueous polyurethane dispersion, have—besides their pleasant feel and high wet rub resistance—a soft, appealing wet touch, no post hardening, high flexometer values and excellent flow out properties.
