Leather summit for Delhi

19/04/2011
India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has organised a leather summit in New Delhi for April 20–21, 2011. The object is to discuss with all stakeholders the challenges and opportunities for the leather sector in coming years.

The event will be inaugurated by Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, minister of state for commerce and industry.

The CLE announced its plans to hold the summit back in February, pointing out that it would also provide an opportunity to celebrate the organisation’s twenty-fifth anniversary, which fell in 2010.

As part of the event, leather industry leaders will hold brainstorming sessions with government representatives to plan the sector’s progress in India in the years ahead.
The Indian government has fixed an export target of $8.5 billion in 2013–14 for the industry.

The CLE also wants to invite business leaders from other countries and other industries to travel, at the CLE’s expense, to New Delhi to bring their vision and their ideas to the meeting. “We want to hear from successful people in all countries and all sectors,” CLE chairman, Rafeeque Ahmed, said on announcing the event.

As a result international brands including Clarks, Apex, Adelchi Footwear (Bangladesh), Service Industries Ltd. (Pakistan) and Universal Leather (Pvt) Ltd. (Pakistan) will also participate and share their views.
