China: meeting held for cleaner tanning
A meeting to discuss the promotion of cleaner tanning production methods has ben held in Guangzhou city, China. Organised by the Guangdong Leather Association (GLA) the meeting brought together more than 80 deputies including officials from Guangdong provincial environmental protection department, the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), China Leather and Footwear Research Institutes as well as academics and business owners.
GLA president Wang Shuxin presided over the meeting. CLIA vice general secretary Chen Zhanguang made the first speech on the overall economic situation of China’s leather sector and issues facing the industry, such as energy saving and emission reduction.
Provincial environmental department director in Guangdong, Wang Dali, said in his report that leather making is always considered to be a high energy consumption and high emission sector. He said it was important to promote cleaner technologies and production in the industry
Updated, cleaner technologies were presented at the meeting, and some entrepreneurs said these technologies could provide help with solving the issues surrounding leather production.
