Tanneries in the famous cluster around Santa Croce sull' Arno in Tuscany have been hosting groups of local high-school students to help them learn about the leather industry and to encourage them to seek jobs in the sector when they complete their studies.

The students visited the production facilities of tanning companies such as Nuova Osba and Lufran and witnessed every stage of the tanning process. The tanners told local media afterwards that the young people had taken part in a number of activities on the production floor and had been enthusiastic in their questions.

Their visit also took in the Santa Croce waste water treatment plant.
