Leather accounts for a third of Bangladesh’s exports
Bangladesh’s total exports have exceeded the target in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) statistics.
The EPB monthly statistics show that exports during July-March period grew by 40.3% over the same period last year, beating the target by 21.2%.
According to the statistics, Bangladesh earned $16.2 billion during the period against the previous corresponding period’s $11.6 billion and target of $13.4 billion.
“Overall export grew at higher rates because of better performance of leather and leather goods sectors, knitwear, jute and frozen food,” said EPB vice chairman Jalal Ahmed.
The leather industry earned $210 million, accounting for 37.2% of the country’s total exports.
