05/04/2011
Pakistan’s Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has reported receiving “huge orders” from Chinese leather buyers at the APLF event in Hong Kong (March 30–April 1). The organisation’s chairman, Fawad Ijaz Khan, said in a statement that during the event, orders from Chinese buyers for leather were strong and that future business in China for Pakistani producers of leather and of leather goods would be healthy.
Exports of leather garments increased by 18.5% during the July 2010-February 2011 period, compared to the same months a year earlier. During the same period, exports of leather from Pakistan to China rose by 44%.
Mr Fawad further said Pakistan was planning to send a trade delegation to China in collaboration with Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to try to encourage further growth.
