Footwear developments in Turkey

29/03/2011
Turkish footwear manufacturers have reported “important developments” in research and development and innovation in recent months.

The Komcero Ayakkabi company from Adana in south-central Anatolia, has started producing shoes with what the manufacturer calls a built-in “orthopaedic massage system” for comfort. The shoes have flexible springs made from soft rubber between the insole and the soling material, which it says massage the bottom of the feet as the wearer walks and accelerates blood circulation. Each shoe contains 82 springs.

Another Turkish company, King Paolo, is producing special leather shoes with leather insoles for the people who have diabetes or foot disorders, and for pregnant women.

Company chairman, Huseyin Turan, has explained the move in local media, saying: “We mainly help to the customers who have foot deformation and who cannot walk properly due to foot health problems.” Production capacity is currently 1.5 millon pairs per year of which 60% are being exported to more than 20 countries.
