AICSul to host environment meeting

The Association of Tanners of Rio Grande do Sul (AICSul) has called a meeting of member tanneries for March 22 to discuss new environmental proposals from the state's environmental defence agency.

Daniel Martini, the agency official who has drawn up the new proposals will attend the meeting with the tanners.

AICSul president, Moacir Berger de Souza, said in the build-up to the event: "If you just hand out protocols, people view new ideas as obligations. That's not what this is about. We need to work together to make sure we avoid environmental problems."

He said the measures the environmental defence agency wants to introduce are aimed more at corporate than at technical areas of the tanning business. One example is a measure to make it clear to business leaders why they need to apply for licence renewal well in advance of the expiry of an existing licence.
