Tanning district wants its own fire station

There are around 12 chemical storage sites and more than 400 tanneries in the area and in the past 12 months the city’s fire service has responded to 13 separate outbreaks of fire in leather production facilities. The nearest fire station is at Meerpur Cantt, five kilometres away and the quality of roads in the area makes fast access difficult.
Hafizur Rahman, president of the local small tanners association, has called on the authorities to set up a new fire station in Jajmau.
