Pakistan Tanners Association repeats energy plea

The chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Mr Khurshid Alam, has repeated a demand that the government there ensure uninterrupted supplies of gas and electricity to tanneries in the province of Punjab, especially those around the city of Lahore.

He expressed concern that despite previous efforts to bring the difficulties with supply to the attention of ministers, there has been no change. Mr Alam said the leather industry in Pakistan is already facing a decline in exports of up to 30%, partly because of what he called a lack of basic facilities.
