Lectra says new software can help tanners keep costs down

Leather industry technology provider Lectra has announced the release of a new solution, Leather Suite V3R1, specially designed for leather cutting and aimed at manufacturers in the automotive and furniture markets.

The Paris-based company said on making the announcement that this new software suite, integrated into Lectra’s leather cutting solutions, will improve profitability for companies that use leather, while also offering a large number of new features.

Demand in the global leather market, both in the automotive and furniture sectors, has grown significantly, particularly in emerging countries, Lectra said. Manufacturers are currently experiencing a strong recovery in orders, but they must also cope with increases in the price of hides of between 50% and 100% since 2009.

“In a context where the price of raw materials often accounts for up to 50% of the production cost of the finished product, and competitive pressure is particularly strong, companies in the leather markets have two key levers: material savings and productivity,” declared Daniel Harari, Lectra CEO. “Lectra enables manufacturers to optimise their manufacturing processes, both for mass production and small runs. They can thus improve productivity and cut material consumption, while guaranteeing high-quality finished products.”
