US: hide prices to increase further
John Reddington, president of the US Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA) has told The Wall Street Journal that consumer demand for leather is continuing to recover, and hide prices are likely to increase as supplies shrink.
Government information shows that hide prices are at their highest level in nearly a decade, jumping 24% in the last year to $82 apiece.
Mr Reddington also expects lower supplies from Australian producers struggling with the aftermath of drought and floods.
