IULTCS to approach C&A over chrome VI

01/03/2011
The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) has said it intends to follow up with retail group C&A over the case of chromium VI that occurred in a collection of baby shoes, which the company removed from retail stores earlier this year.

“There is little in the story that we in the science community can access from a factual context (what test method, who tested, what levels were found, what limits C&A will accept, and so on),” IULTCS told leatherbiz. “As an industry the issue of chrome VI can easily be misunderstood and in the wrong hands can be hugely detrimental. We would be glad to make an initial approach to C&A or their representatives to better understand this issue from a scientific viewpoint and offer resources to ensure facts are correctly addressed.”
