Land of Leather brand name up for sale
28/02/2011
Glasgow-based intellectual asset specialist Metis Partners has been appointed by the administrators, Deloitte, to sell off the intangible assets of Land of Leather.
Land of Leather was formed in 1985 and, at its peak, employed 850 people in 109 stores across the UK and Ireland.
Metis has argued that Land of Leather remains a household name, after the company spent more than £20 million on media and advertising between 2008 and 2009.
Stephen Robertson of Metis Partners said: “The Land of Leather brand has a very high level of awareness amongst consumers. It is protected by European Community, UK and Irish trade marks as a leather furniture retailer and this makes it, I believe, a very attractive proposition for any retailer of any kind of leather items wishing to capitalise on the millions of pounds which have been invested in its substantial and consistent advertising campaigns over the years.”
He said a number of website domain names would be included in the sale. Possible buyers have until March 15 to register their interest.
