Double-digit growth for Indian leather exports

During the first ten months of the current financial year (April 2010–January 2011), the value of India’s leather sector exports increased by almost 13.8% to $ 2.8 billion, from just less than $2.4 billion in the corresponding period last year.

The breakdown showed that exports of finished leather were up by 21.7% to $596.6 million, while exports of leather footwear increased by 17.7% to just over $1 billion from $897.2 million in the first ten months of last financial year. Leather garment exports rose by 7.25% to $333.6 million, and leathergoods by 10.1% to $591.8 million.

Exports of footwear components fell by 2.3% to $191.9 million.
