A footwear manufacturer has told the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) that there has been a change in the way employees are found in China. “Years before migrant workers came to us seeking for jobs, nowadays we offer jobs to them for their choices,” the factory owner said recently at a job fair in Chengdu.

The owner claimed that only half of his workforce returned after the Lunar New Year holiday, and that the company is now taking in a variety of recruitment measures, including distributing and posting job advertisements and inviting job-seekers to visit the factory first before deciding whether to stay.

Salaries for skilled worker have increased, and some factories have given awards to returned workers.
