Additional REACH chemicals

22/02/2011

A number of chemicals have recently been added to REACH, the European Community’s list of restrictions and regulations for the importation of hazardous chemicals to EU member countries.

REACH publishes regular lists of chemicals which are restricted or prohibited to import. Sometimes the lists also contain chemicals which are used in the preparation of proprietary chemical products used in leather productions.

Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Diisobutyl Phthalate, which are used as plasticisers in N/C lacquers, and lead chromate and lead chromate molybdate, which are used in the preparation of pigment pastes used in leather finishing, have been included to the lists, meaning that products containing these chemicals will be prohibited by the European Community.
