Clariant to acquire controlling stake in Süd-Chemie

17/02/2011
Specialty chemicals manufacturer Clariant is planning the acquisition of a controlling majority in rival firm Süd-Chemie.

Munich-based Süd-Chemie is less involved in the leather chemicals sector than Clariant, but it does have a specialist interest in products for waste water treatment plants.
The transaction is still subject to clearance by the merger control authorities, but Clariant has announced that it has come to agreements with shareholder groups that control more than 95% of the equity in Süd-Chemie. It valued the transaction at EUR 2 billion.
