Sweden’s ambassador to Uganda, Anders Johnson, has said his country will continue its programme of supporting skills development in the African country, especially for small-and-medium enterprises. Companies to have benefited so far include tanneries in the Jinja region of the country.

Aid from Sweden to Uganda is at a level of approximately $8 million a year, with at least 45% of the money going towards the development of skills development, often in the form of research that is of direct relevance to local companies.

Speaking at an event in Entebbe aimed at boosting competitiveness throughouth African economies, Mr Johnson said: “We want to boost the country's economic development by supporting business-related research because it is one of the key components in skills enhancement to make businesses competitive.”
