Mongolia could set up leather industry production centre on Russian border

09/02/2011
The prime minister of Mongolia, Sükhbaataryn Batbold, has held talks with the country’s leather industry association, the MAL, to discuss the difficulties the industry is facing in Mongolia and the possibility of government help.

Mr Batbold is reported to have said his government is happy to provide support to industry projects that create jobs, but that companies in the industry needed to articulate clearly the help they require and the benefits they expect to achieve.

One proposal the MAL has put forward already is that Mongolia should establish a leather production centre in the Altanbulag economic free zone in the north of the country, on the border with Russia.
