One of the tanneries in the district of El Porvenir in Trujillo, Peru, has been destroyed by fire.

Fire was reported at the Sosa tannery on the afternoon of Sunday, February 6. The authorities said the blaze was of a high intensity and one firefighter was injured after climbing onto the roof of the building to tackle the flames.

Owners Carmela and Abraham Sosa estimated that hides, finished leather and tanning machinery destroyed in the incident had been worth more than $600,000. They rushed to the scene to try to save their company, local media said. Reports said a lack of water in the area held back the efforts of the fire service.
