The Menemen leather industry free zone in Izmir, Turkey, has successfully implemented a new sludge dehydration facility at its waste water treatment plant.

Menemen’s waste water treatment plant has the capacity to treat 24,000 cubic tonnes of waste water a day and also has units for treating chemical and biological waste. The president of the Aegean Leather Industrialists’ Association, Eyup Sevimli, said at the inauguration of the sludge dehydration plant: “We continue our commitment to the environment for the safe survival of our leather industry.”

Mr Sevimli also commented on the high price of raw materials that his member companies are experiencing at the moment and called on the Turkish government to support programmes to boost the herd sizes of domestic sheep, goat and cattle.
