Danier sales down as consumers move to lower price points

Specialist Canadian leather fashion and accessories retail group Danier Leather has reported a drop in sales for the quarter leading up to Christmas.

In 2010, sales revenues for the three-month period to December 25 were $61.4 million compared to $70.6 million for the same period in 2009. Like-for-like sales were down by 13%.

“While softness in consumer spending leading up to Christmas as well as customers shifting their purchases to lower price points contributed to the overall decrease in sales, gross profit margin remained strong and accessories continued to perform well,” the company said in a statement.

Danier Leather has 91 stores across Canada.
