Pakistan releases new production data for leather sector

Pakistan’s production of finished leather in the month of November 2010 rose by 7.8% to just over 2 million square-metres from 1.9 million square-metres in November 2009.

The production of shoe upper and sole leather also grew by 2.4% and 13% to 2.1 million pairs and 26 tonnes respectively.

For the first five months of the current financial year (July-November 2010) production of finished leather in Pakistan increased by 3.5% compared to the same period in the previous financial year, reaching 10.1 million square-metres.

The production of footwear increased to 14.6 million pairs between July and November compared to 12.4 million pairs in the same five months of the previous financial year, growth of 18.6%. The production of sole leather recorded growth of 94.3% to 171 tonnes for the period, up from 88 tonnes in first five months of last financial year.
