Leather cluster to receive new technology

The tanning and leathergoods cluster in Kano, northern Nigeria, is in line for an injection of new technology investment as part of an initiative to promote the cluster idea across the country.

The Director General of Nigeria’s raw materials research and development council (RMRDC), Professor Peter Onwualu, said an important part of spreading the cluster idea across all industries and all parts of the country would be to look closely at existing clusters, including the Kano leather cluster, to see what is working best about the idea and what needs improving.

Help with improvements will be available thanks to investment from a variety of international aid partners, which RMRDC will use to put up-to-date technology into the clusters.
