Bangladesh leather exports decrease
According to the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh’s total leather sector export fell by 3.6% to $203.14 million between July and December 2010 from $210.8 million in the same period last year.
The breakdown showed that Bangladesh exported finished leather worth $97.62 million from $104.8 million in July to December 2009, indicating a decline of 6.85%. Footwear decreased by 1.93% to $96.83 million from $98.74 million in the corresponding period, but exports of leather bags and purses grew by 19.7% to $8.69 million from $7.26 million in the same month last year.
It may be mentioned here that the Bangladesh has fixed an export target of $563.81 million for the leather sector for 2010-11 (July-June) compared to $476.80 million in the financial year of 2009-10.
