Luxury leathergoods brand Asprey has announced that former CEO of Smythson, Paddy Byng, will be its new managing director. Mr Byng resigned from his role at Smythson in spring 2010.

“Paddy showed very strong leadership at Smythson, and he has a background in marketing as well as supply chain, especially in the leather industry,” said John Rigas, chairman of Asprey’s board and its main shareholder. “He will be instrumental in the evolution of this company, and in developing the leathergoods element of the brand.”

Mr Byng will work alongside Asprey’s creative director, Bruce Hoeksema, appointed in June 2010.
