US could become a net exporter of beef

A lower value dollar could lead to the US becoming a net exporter of beef for the first time in 2011, according to the chief economist of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Gregg Dowd.

The decline in 2010 of the value of the dollar has made US beef more affordable for importers, Mr Dowd said, and made beef from other exporting countries, including Australia, Canada and Brazil more expensive for buyers in the US.
