National conference for leather industry in Pakistan

Pakistan's University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Lahore has secured the support of the country’s Higher Education Commission, the University of Northampton in the UK, and the Lederinstitut Gerberschule Reutlingen in Germany to organise a national conference on Pakistan’s leather sector, in an attempt to identify the challenges and opportunities the industry faces. The conference will take place on December 29, 2010 in Lahore.

One of the aims of the event is to develop university and industry partnerships for the development of the leather sector in Pakistan. Organisations taking part will include the Pakistan Tanners Association, the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association, the Pakistan
Leather Gloves Manufacturers & Exporters Association and the Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA). Each of these industry bodies will deliver papers at the event.

Other participants will include Royal Leather, Shafi Reso Chemical, Siddiq Leather, Urban Sole and Muhammad Shafi Tanneries.
