New production data for Pakistani leather sector

Pakistan's production of finished leather in the month of September 2010 declined by 2.1% to 2 million square metres, year on year. Similarly, footwear production also dropped by 0.6% to 2.5 million pairs in September 2010.


However, the production of sole leather has recorded a growth of 207% to 43 tons in the month of September 2010 from 14 tons in September 2009.

On a cumulative basis, Pakistan's production of finished leather in the first three months of the current financial year 2010-11 (July to September) stood at 5.8 million square metres from 5.9 million  square metres in July to September 2009-10, showing a minor negative growth of 0.7%.

However, on a positive note, the production of footwear increased to 9.4 million pairs between July and September 2010-11 from 7.6 million pairs – an increase of 23.50%.

The production of sole leather also recorded a growth of 188% to 124 tons from 43 tons in first three months of last financial year 2010-11 (July to September).
