Half of German leather imports come from China
China is Germany’s largest supplier of leathergoods and garment but not shoes, according to the Federal Statistical Office. In the first nine months of 2010, approximately half of Germany’s leather imports came from China.
The value of the products amounted to EUR1.8 billion. The second and third major importing countries were India and Italy respectively, with shares of 11% and 6.6%.
The office stated that Germany exported leathergoods and garments valued at EUR923.2 million between January and late September 2010. Its main exporting countries were Austria, with a share of 12.5%, France with 10.7% and Switzerland with 8.4%.
