Sheepskin prices still on the rise in Turkey

14/12/2010
The price of domestic sheepskin is increasing in Turkey, in spite of an anticipated drop following the festival of Eid al-Adha in November. Demand for garment leather is so intense that the price of sheepskin has doubled in the three weeks since the festival and has reached EUR 8 per piece in some parts of Turkey.

A decline in imported skins has also contributed to the price increase; there is a worldwide scarcity and Turkish tanners have found international prices to be too high. Turkish tanners have express particular concerns about the price of sheepskin from Spain and the UK, with some saying they expect the price of Spanish entrefino skins to go beyond EUR 15 in the early part of 2011.
