India: leather exports increase in value
India’s leather exports from April to October 2010 (the first seven months of the current financial year) increased by 17.9% to $1.97 billion in terms of value, compared to $1.67 billion in the corresponding period of the last financial year.
The growth in local currency terms was smaller at 9.8%.
Finished leather was up by 28.9% to just over $422 million from $327.3 million, while leather footwear was up in value by 22.4% to $728.2 million from $594.9 million. Footwear components increased by 2.5% to $137.9 million from $134.5 million, leather garments by 8.6% to $232.6 million from $214.2 million, and leathergoods by 12% to $411.3 million from $367.2 million.
