Jimmy Choo to launch men’s footwear collection

08/12/2010

Tamara Mellon, founder and chief creative officer of footwear company Jimmy Choo, has confirmed that the brand will introduce a range of men’s footwear in 2011.

Nine years after the company exited the men’s shoe business in 2002, it will now step back into the arena by launching a collection of dress shoes, moccasins, casual biker boots, trainers and evening slippers for fall-winter 2011.

The new footwear will be produced in Italy with initial distribution to 30 men’s specialty stores and department stores worldwide. The collection will also be available through the Jimmy Choo website.

Although the Jimmy Choo offerings for men were discontinued in 2002, the success of the 2009 Jimmy Choo for H&M collection, which included men's shoes, made the company reconsider.

“I think we can become a lifestyle brand, because one thing doing the collaboration last year with [high-street retail chain] H&M showed us was that consumers would accept any product from us,” Ms Mellon told the Financial Times in a recent interview.

The collection will be presented to the press during the upcoming Milan men’s fashion week, from 15 to 18 January 2011.
