Indian leather exports up in value

The value of India’s leather exports during the first seven months of the current financial year (April-October) increased by 17.9% to $1.97 billion, compared to $1.67 billion in corresponding period of the last financial year.

In local currency terms, growth was smaller at 9.8%.

The breakdown showed that exports of finished leather were up by 28.9% to just over $422 million from $327.3 million, leather footwear was up in value by 22.4% to $728.2 million from $594.9 million, footwear components by 2.5% to $137.9 million from 134.5 million, leather garments by 8.6% to $232.6 million from $214.2 million, and leathergoods by 12% to $411.3 million from $367.2 million.
