Ethiopia grows exports to India

Exports from Ethiopia to India have increased in recent years and have the potential to continue growing, with leather and raw hides and skins from the African country among the products India is keen to buy.

Recent discussions between Ethiopia's minister for foreign affairs, Hailemariam Desalegn, and India's commerce minister, Anand Sharma, revealed that the value of exports from Ethiopia had increased from $8 million in financial year 2005-2006 to $18 million in 2009-2010.

Mr Sharma said he thought a duty free tariff preference (DFTP) scheme that India has announced for Ethiopia would help increase the volume and value of goods his country imports from there.
